To the extreme: Adam Lambert's AMA performance shocks some viewers and fans article video

Nov 23, 2009 @ 11:30 AM, Entertainment, Chris Richards

Where can a singer thrust a man's face into his crotch, walk his dancers on a leash and force his keyboardist into a lip lock -- all while mewling like a hair metal hero of yore?

The American Music Awards, believe it or not.

Adam Lambert closed Sunday's AMAs -- usually one of the year's sleepiest of awards shows -- with a stunt-laden performance of "For Your Entertainment," the sexed-up title track of his debut album, landing in stores Monday.

American Music Awards: Notes from backstage article video

Paula

Paula Abdul might not be returning as a judge on reality TV juggernaut "American Idol," but backstage at the American Music Awards on Sunday night -- where she was one of the few presenters and performers to visit the press -- she was still every bit the proud "relative" of the "Idol" alums. "It's very surreal and very exciting," she said of being around so many of the young performers she helped mentor over her years with the series. "Its amazing to see them. While presenting, I could see Carrie [Underwood] and [Adam] Lambert. And just now I watched Kelly [Clarkson]."

As for what's next for her career post-"Idol," Abdul remained tight-lipped. "You'll be hearing about it very soon," she said.

After winning the country male artist prize, Keith Urban had only one thing on his mind: some downtime with his family -- wife Nicole Kidman and the couple's young daughter, Sunday. "This is the first time we'll be able to take her to Australia," Urban said.

Nov 22, 2009 @ 11:08 PM, Entertainment, Sandy Cohen

LOS ANGELES -- Michael Jackson made history by posthumously winning four American Music Awards on Sunday night, but he couldn't beat Taylor Swift as the year's favorite artist and the evening's top winner.

The 19-year-old took the show's top award, giving Jackson his only loss of the night, and giving her five trophies in all.

"Music has never been ultimately about competition," she said as she accepted the top prize via satellite from London, where she is to perform Monday. "To even be mentioned in a category with Michael Jackson, who we will miss and love forever, is an unimaginable honor."

"New Moon" plays it by the book article video

Nov 20, 2009 @ 01:16 AM, Entertainment, Michael Rechtshaffen

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The moon may be new, and the director may be different (Chris Weitz takes over the reins from Catherine Hardwicke), but otherwise, the second installment of the "Twilight" saga remains, for better or worse, exceptionally faithful to its 2008 beginnings.

Understandably not wanting to mess with that $350 million worldwide success, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," is content to stay within those tonal parameters rather than venture out in potentially more intriguing or substantial directions, which should suit its ferocious adolescent female fan base just fine.

The uninitiated, meanwhile, might find that the film's deliberately unhurried 130-minute running time feels like a Cullen clan eternity.
